Captain America #34

The new Captain America makes his debut today as Captain America #34 hits the stores, written by Ed Brubaker, penciled by me, inked by Butch Guice, and colored by Frank D'Armata.

You may notice the cover is slightly revised from the solicited version. The muddy yellow background really wasn't working for me and in the end, I dropped it out all together.

Also, CBR is running an interview I did with them about this issue here.

The white background on the cover does make a pretty big difference! I haven't picked up my copy of hte issue yet, but I can't wait to check it out.

Hey, this came out on my birthday. Great gift! I guess I had to pay for it, but still.

I really want to say how much I love the fact that the new Captain America's face looks different. Like, you can tell, even from under the mask, that it is someone besides Steve. To me, that is a stunning mark of a very talented hand.

Great job.

Lovely cover. Great composition and the white bg really makes it stronger. The rendering and the texture on the flag is great too.

Agree with dylan re: the white background -- and it looks great, and bold on the shelf.

I have to admit, as one who wasn't initially sold on Ross's new Cap design... you guys made it work.

Eager to read #35!

Wow Steve the white background really makes this image pop. My comics arrive by mail next week and this will be the cover I'm hoping to see when I cut the bag open! Fantastic stuff!

Steve,

No disrespect to Ross, but I had to get your cover over his. Both are cool, but yours is more...stately somehow. Like a Republic Serial movie poster.

A great friggin' issue. I wouldn't be upset if Bucky stays Cap for a few years.

D'oh! I'm "anonymous" from the previous post, and screwed up my sign-in.

Great cover, as usual.
I really would like to see Steve drawing Silver Sable and Paladin someday.

Loved the art. Not a fan of Bucky after the way he's been written since Steve died. The real Captain America can't come back soon enough for me.

How many issues is Guice doing full art on, Steve?

Thanks everyone for the comments on the cover. I think the white background was a definite improvement, if for no other reason than it kept the palette basically red, white, and blue.

Dylan - thanks for noticing the flag. That was my favorite part of the cover!

Dusty - the plan is for Butch to do 35 and 36. I can tell you that 35 is absolutely stunning and I doubt anybody will miss me at all.

Thanks again everybody!

Loved how the issue was basically in Bucky's head. How he compared himself to Cap. Very subtle and special at the same time.
