Sketches from Boston Comic Con

I had a great time at the Boston Comic Con a couple of weekends back. Thanks to everyone who came by! I only have a few pics of some of the sketches I did at the show and unfortunately they were all taken with a crappy phone camera. Better than nothing I suppose!

CAPTAIN AMERICA #15 Cover

Marvel's July solicitations have been up for awhile and included in them are CAPTAIN AMERICA #15 and WINTER SOLDIER #8 - both of which I did the covers for. I really enjoyed designing the mock tabloid covers for the background of the Captain America cover. Below are each of the front pages of the papers that I created in photoshop, as well as the painted figures on their own. All of these elements were then combined (along with some visual effects) for the final image.

Boston Comic Con

WINTER SOLDIER COVERS: #6 AND #7

Marvel's June 2012 solicitations have begun to leak out and among them are issues #6 and #7 of Winter Soldier - both of which I'm happy to say I did the covers for. I really enjoyed drawing and painting the character again and hopefully there will be more to come.

FANTASTIC FOUR #604

In stores this week - the EXTRA SIZED Fantastic Four #604 by Jonathan Hickman, Me, Rick Magyar, Paul Mounts, and Clayton Cowles. The epic conclusion of a three year storyline and more Kirby Krackle per square inch than any other comic this month!

Creeper

Not sure what it is, other than the result of playing around in Photoshop for an hour or so. Obviously the title does not refer to the DC Comics character of the same name. I am happy with the color palette, which is a bit more desaturated than usual.

Batman

Happy New Year! That's right - it's the end of February and I'm just now posting for the first time in 2012. Sorry about that. Hopefully you will enjoy this Batman drawing and forgive me for the lack of attention I've shown the blog.

FanExpo Canada 2011

August 21 - Hellboy Day!

Another year, another August 21st, and another Hellboy sketch. Following my yearly tradition, I'm celebrating the 4th anniversary of my inaugural post with a sketch of Hellboy. This is painted over an old commission I did where I believe the goal was to base the drawing on a photo of Ron Perlman in his Hellboy makeup and try to exaggerate it some to make it look more like Mignola's version. Hellboy is, of course, TM and © Michael Mignola.

FanExpo Spider-Man variant cover

Hey! I'll be at FanExpo Canada in Toronto for the big 4 day show August 25-28. One of the exclusive premiums for the show is a variant cover for Amazing Spider-Man 666 which is an altered version of a splash page I drew in FF#1. By removing the Empire State Building, changing the distant background to Lake Ontario, and adding in the CN Tower and the Skydome (not mention the subtle Canadian flag draped across a skyscraper), New York is transformed into Toronto for the occasion. I've been to Toronto a few times, but this is my first time attending FanExpo and I'm really looking forward to it.

This is another digital sketch of a knight I did back around the same time this one and this one were done. Not sure why I never posted it but better late than never I guess. Done in Photoshop.
