I did another montage for this cover, and though I think there was some potential for a decent cover in the rough, I'm afraid I didn't quite pull it all together in the final version.
The image above is the finished version of the cover. Unfortunately, the cover being used for the online solicitations is an earlier, unfinished version that was rushed out for the catalogue.

Steve, everything you do is amazing. As they always say, you are your own toughest critic. But either way, I always look forward to Cap, not only for Bru's amazing writing, but for your phenomenal pencils as well. You just do it so damn well and I will never get enough. All the best and keep at it :)
Steve, you are, without a doubt, the finest cover artist in all the land! Love your women. I'd love to see you and Ed bring Viper/Madame Hydra into the story just because of how well you draw women. Femme Fatales in espionage type stories are always a plus.
Why do I see Warren Ellis when I look at Dr. Faustus on that cover? lol
awesome man!
this is the best Black Widow ever!!!
hey Dusty (its me Rogério, from CBR)
you are totally right. Steve, you are the best!
I really would like to see you drawing Madame Hydra, Madame Masque, Silver Sable...
that cover is amazing. and you're saying that was rushed? wowzers.
so can we expect a slightly different cover to hit the stands as opposed to the solicited image?
Thanks to The Legend and Rogerio.
Dusty: Viper/Madam Hydra would be cool. As for Dr. Faustus, it reminds me more of Alan Moore. :)
Raphael: The cover I've posted here on the blog is the final version that will see print (unless I tinker with it some more). The rushed version I referred to is the one on Newsarama etc... If you compare them you should see a difference.
Thanks for the comments everyone!
I had zero clue you were doing your own covers now too! I need to check the credit box more carefully. I really like the way this one turned out. It'll be interesting to see how you interpret the shiny bits of Cap's new costume in the interior.
Steve,
Beautiful artwork! Thanks for the many hours of enjoyment in Captain America these past months.
Will you be at the Emerald City Comic Convention in Seattle, May 2008?
Happy New Year and God's Blessings to you and your family!
Hey Steve
Great artwork, there are very few who can make Cap look that great, congrats.
On anouther note, i would like to see if you would be interested in attendin an event in Australia and maybe NZ, could you please drop me an email?
